I was concerned about the weight of this floating shelf. It seemed strange to mount something so heavy to a wall since most of the items I will display on it won't weigh as much as the shelf on its own. There is a metal mounting bracket that you at first mount on the wall using the included screws. I had to screw holes in this bracket to match the width of the studs in the wall I planned to mount it to. Once the bracket was mounted on the wall, the shelf slides onto the lip easily. I am using this shelf as a makeshift mantel. The shelf is quite heavy and it feels like petrified wood. Overall it is a very attractive shelf and makes for an attractive fireplace mantel.. Richard. Strong, thick mantle type floating shelf. Took me a minute to figure out that I had to unscrew the anchor from inside the shelf before accessing the directions and other hardware. I almost called to get replacement hardware but heard something clinging as I shook it to see if something would fall out. I wish the directions had been out the outside. Since I got the 60" and my arm.span is short, I did bribe my husband to help me put it up. And by help, I mean do it himself. The finish is not solid which made me like it even more.
