It is thought that the woman portrayed alludes to the figures of sleeping nymphs and naiads the Greeks often sculpted. Flaming June disappeared from view in the early 1900s and was rediscovered only in the 1960s. It was auctioned shortly after, during a period of time known to be difficult for selling Victorian era paintings, where it failed to sell for its low reserve price of US$140 (the equivalent of $1,126 in modern prices). After the auction, it was promptly purchased by the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where it currently resides.

This wall art depicts poppies growing on the rocky outcroppings along the coastline.

This is a serene, picturesque view representative of the North Shore of Massachusetts. Although it is supposed to be the Isle of Shoals in New Hampshire, it also reminds me of Manchester-by-the-Sea and Marblehead. I am using it in a cozy corner of the kitchen over a round table with a pendulum light. The canvas makes it appear a bit grainy but realistic of paint on canvas. This print is elegant! The colors are so nice and soft. I loved the option to have it framed. It really adds to the class. A few minor things I have to mention The frame did come a bit damaged. Since it is a print it doesnt have any texture which does make me sad, but there is really nothing to be done about that. Lastly, it said it came with hanging kit, but mine did not include one. The painting is smaller than I had envisioned, but that's my fault. The dimensions were for the picture and the frame; I should have realized that. However, my husband thinks it's the perfect size for a wall in our living room. It replaced a framed photo of the Grand Canyon that we no longer noticed, and this Victorian watercolor is more apropos for our Arts & Crafts decor.
