I'm a 71 year old female and I didn't have any trouble assembling it all by myself using an electric drill with Phillips head bit, a regular Phillips head screwdriver and a rubber mallet. So easy to put together even by yourself--only need to attach the arm rests and legs. No tools needed as.the screws and hex key are provided. The hardest part was taking it out of the box (or in my case, ripping the box away from the couch). As a couch, it feels great if you like stiffer support, like I do. If youre looking for a cloud to sit on, this aint it. Similarly the bed portion is kinda of stiff for sleeping but its easily solved by a mattress topper. Its super easy to fold and unfold, but mine didnt come with directions, so here are some tips. To flatten it to a bed, unfold the seat to flat first. Then unzip the pockets in the back of the backrest and unbend the legs for the backrest. After, gently pull the backrest forward first (like the backseat of your car when youre trying to get to your trunk from the inside of your car) and then push it all the way back to the floor. If you want to recline, you have to pull it up to the desired angle from the flat position. Note, the back has a huge exposed zipper (see pic) so if you dont put it against a wall, youll probably want a throw blanket or something else to hide it. Fair warning, it seems smaller than a twin in terms of width so larger guests and guests who roll in their sleep may feel uncomfortable with the width. The Instructions Were Clear. That Was the Last Thing That Was. I want to be fair to the manual. It was clear, well illustrated, and I followed it without much trouble. I am reasonably handy. The listing says "Easy to Assemble" and "all necessary tools," and I would like to report that this is true if you also consider a hardware store to be one of the tools. Four trips. Not four trips over the life of the product. Four trips during assembly. The bed worked beautifully for one night. On the second night one of the support legs left the building. I don't know how. A guest may have kicked it. What I do know is that I came out in the morning to find a full-size cabinet lying at about thirty degrees, with the screws pulled clean out of the piece that anchors the spring-loaded tension mechanism. The listing describes this mechanism as a "smooth hydraulic lift system for effortless opening and closing, providing a safe and user-friendly experience for all ages." I would like to submit some field data. Two adult men pushing on it accomplished nothing. What accomplished something was a ratchet strap. Once the bed was hanging in the air on a strap I bought for hauling firewood, I tried to reinstall the screws with a 90-degree screwdriver purchased specifically for this occasion. It did not fit. Nothing fits back there. Trip four was for bolts. There was a stretch where I had my hand inside a loaded spring assembly held in place by nylon webbing, doing the math on which finger I could most afford to lose. What finally worked was disassembling the folding half of the bed and removing it entirely, which is to say I took the bed out of the bed in order to reinstall the part that holds the bed up. My teenager went out and dug the steel shipping straps out of the trash, and those went back on to cage the springs while we worked, which is apparently their real job and which is why they should not be the first thing a customer throws away. When it came time to release the ratchet, I did it from across the room with a very long screwdriver, on the theory that the screwdriver had fewer nerve endings. We also cut two pieces from our scrap pile to shim the bottom rails, which arrived misaligned. Here is the current situation: the bed aligns fine at both edges and bows out roughly half an inch in the middle, where it catches the lower board and shoves it outward every time we try to close it. Photo attached, since it doesn't sound like much until you see it. The practical result is that we own a Murphy bed we cannot fold. It is a bed. It has always been a bed. It will be a bed forever.
