In the winter, if a planter is to remain planted, they should be raised up off the ground making sure not to block the drainage hole. This allows the planter to drain and will prevent the planter from freezing to the ground. If the planter is not to be planted, it should be brought inside to a garage or shed. If this is not possible, follow the steps above, but turn the planter upside down to prevent it from filling with snow and ice. It should then be covered or wrapped with burlap or any absorbent material and then wrapped with dark plastic to prevent it from accumulating moisture.

I am OBSESSED with these! I've loved window boxes since living in Germany in the 1990s but always had a hard time finding ones to fit my deck railings. I've done the wire holder with plastic box and they just looked blah. These look amazing! I can't wait until the grass grows tall and petunias and sweet potato vines spill over. I always choose black because it goes with almost anything. This large planter I am using for a lot of carrots, parsnips lemongrass eucalyptus in the spring. I plant a lot of some peas and dive butter crunch, lettuce you can plant bushes and trees in this but right at the moment I’m liking that I can plant Root vegetables along with other kind of bell peppers and jalapeño peppers and even eggplant.
