We have a ceiling light in a hallway that does not have a wall switch so the ceiling fixture requires a pull chain. This is an excellent low profile option on its own (no ceiling fan). This shade was a great replacement for the old, yellow one that broke. It features a soft, bright matte white finish. Although it comes with a cap equipped with two holes for pull chains, only the center chain is functional because the opening is too narrow to use the fan chain—at least for my model of fan. We purchased these for a hall that has a low ceiling--the style and dimensions were a great fit! The quality is a little chintzy. One of the three that we purchased broke during installation. I was hand tightening the screws that keep the glass shade in place and shattered the glass globe. The first light fixture arrived smashed, but customer service replaced it in only 4 days. The light looks great in our living room, and we are really happy with it. My husband had to drill out the bracket holes so that the screws would fit, and it was really hard to line up the base onto the screws. You may want to consider professional installation.
