I love these fiber clay urn planters and own several of them to plant my flowers and to elevate mums and luminaries in the fall. The planter has a beautiful exterior design. The base bottom does not have drainage holes which would be fine for indoor or covered patio use. However, I VERY carefully drilled several holes in the base to allow water to drain out since I use them outdoors (3 season use). It is only three pieces that you put together - the bottom screws on and the top insert you sit inside. Very simple. The booklet tells you a quick rinse is all you need to clean it, when needed.
