It has a thick, Jersey fabric covering it which makes it so soft. The mattress itself is very comfortable and not at all like a stiff, hard foam. This sleeping mat is actually pretty comfortable. The foam is dense enough to add a good amount of support without being too hard. It has a nice anti-slip bottom so it stays in place. It is a little bulky when folded up but I still plan on using it for camping. This is a great memory foam mattress. We got this to replace a similar mattress at the lake cabin that was a bit too soft, which was causing me a sore back in the morning. The description of medium support is spot on. This is super comfortable and thick, much better than expected! I spent this weekend sleeping on this, and I can say my back feels great in the mornings now. It took about 3 to 4 hours for this to fully expand and be ready to be slept on.
