According to Greek mythology, Hylas, the handsome companion of Hercules, Jason and The Argonauts, was sent ashore to search for water. The Naiad water nymphs were so enchanted by his beauty that the mermaid-like maidens pulled him into their depths forever. Whether the young man's fate is an abrupt death by drowning or everlasting sexual bliss is up to the discretion of the viewer. Critics have so lauded this Pre-Raphaelite vibrantly-hued work by masterful Victorian Waterhouse that it's been said to embrace 'a spirit of real poetry. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. The replica 4.375" wide, European style, bright gold-toned, ribbed frame is cast in quality designer resin with an acanthus leaf and floret border that draws the eye toward the beautiful image. Proudly printed and framed in the USA using imported molding.
It's gorgeous. I always appreciate the detail this brand puts into it's reproduction artwork. The frame is beautiful and solid, but not too heavy. The artwork itself is true to the original and has brushstrokes and paint marks that make it look museum quality. Really cool that they can bring fine art to the common man's home :). Tess.
