This is a nice, spacious bookcase. I do not give 5* because it came damaged. I ordered 2 bookcases and both came with a damaged side panel. Also I was not impressed how it looks in general. Coating looks cheap. Probably I would not buy it if I saw this bookcase in store. But it is too much work to return them and expensive too. A piece (uneven wooden bar) at base of bookshelf was broken, no instructions were given (their function was unclear, if they were supposed to be legs they would have scratched my floors, it was unfinished plywood). These were expensive and should at least include a sheet with something written in them. I Ended up taking these pieces off with a hammer. The shelves inside of the bookcases were loose inside and moving around during shipment. This scratched some areas of the wood. Hidden areas ( back of shelves and underside of unit) are unfinished. There was fine sawdust, so the whole unit has to be wiped. Other than that it's a sturdy well made unit. I wouldn't say it's solid wood, however it's a good quality plywood. The bookcase came extremely well packed and in good shape. The selves are adjustable, with multiples holes for sizing. It came with runners nailed to the bottom, which needed to be removed. I noticed these after we had the bookshelf in place and it seemed unsteady. Should have instructions included to clarify removal of them, since they were securely nailed in place. Once filled up with books, the holes for adjusting the selves are not visible. The book case is heavy and sturdy. Looks great, but the assembly was frustrating. You have 2 choices Either all the shelves can be screwed in securely which results in only 1 of the back X bars being able to line up and atatch (see photo) , or you assemble the frame with both X pieces in which case most of your shelf holesscrews wont line up. It is fairly stable once assembled, but feels tippy forward and back, so make sure you anchor this to your wall. I will add it DOES come with self leveling feet which helped a bit. These shelves will NOT work for paperback books as the space between the black supports is too deep to lean the books against to display them upright. You will need an extra large book at the ends or bookends to display your books upright. For the price Id say they are just shy of 4 stars. The wood of the shelves does look nice .. Tara.
