The back panel needs to be put on with the decorative panel facing inward, or the bottom piece will not fit. Other than that, all the pieces snap together, and no tools are needed! The adjustable shelf is great, so you can customize it for your storage needs. I'm using this as storage for my Hydroponics set up for growing veggies indoors. I am OBSESSED! We purchased two for under our television and they are gorgeous! Note they scratch easily but nothing you can’t fix with a sharpie. They are a pain to build the instructions are a little confusing- just make sure you know which direction will be the front and back of the unit before you assemble; we had to rebuild one of ours. The doors were pretty annoying to get aligned but I don’t think that is unique to this product. One of the six doors does not function with the push to close so we have to push back the lever manually when we want to close it but the door itself works. I added this to my salon studio since I needed drawers for my brushes, clippers, scissors etc…and I love it!
