Comparing the room darkening curtains to my blackout curtains and you can see the light permeates through. Not bad, but my blackout curtains you couldn’t tell if it was day or night outside but with the room darkening curtains you can see when it’s light outside. I have put photos to see the comparison. Works fine for my needs. The gold was a terrible yellow color so I spray painted it black to match the rest of my studio decor. I didn't use the curtains that came with it either as I wanted something that would contrast well with the color I painted the walls. And for anyone wondering: The curtains were just ok to begin with. They were linen on the outside and velvet on the inside. The black velvet looked nice and I feel the entire curtain should have been made of that material. The woven linen side seems kind of boring but if you have a small boutique, it would serve your purposes well. The poles are hollow but sturdy enough. I wasnt sure about these when I first opened the packages. The smell was so strong that I had to put them in the wash immediately (watch out for crazy amounts of fuzz from the chenille!). The pattern is also printed on, not embroidered, and I thought it might look tacky. They came out of the wash pretty wrinkled even though I took them out right away, and the instructions say not to iron. And after all that - I really love them!
