Could have been fancier could have come in a different color. Backside is not that pretty and black screws on the pickled gray color weren't very attractive. I bought a PVC screen online from a big box store as they say and my husband used a couple of screws to attach it to the back, because that's what divides our living area. The screen was almost exactly the size width and height of the unit. No cutting necessary. We needed one that was 40ish inches and this at 47 and 23 in deep worked for our purpose. It serves divider and lamp table as well as dog house, between our living area and dining den in a long narrow room. I preferred quite a few of them, but most of the sizes in the pretty furniture ones, were between 55 and 80 to 90 in long. That just would not have worked for us. It was easy to put together just follow directions and make sure you have everything before you start. Took my husband a couple of hours. Going slowly to do it correctly. We're used to this sort of assembly. So there were no surprises. The drawers have rails so they slide easily and they hold a whole bunch of stuff. One of the reasons I chose this one over another one that was about this size is because on that one, the drawers as they were called were actually just wooden boxes that you shoved into cubbies. They did not have rails they did not slide back and forth easily. I couldn't have stood to hear that noise more than once. So this is lovely with nice sliding drawers. I have 20ish pound shelties who love to curl up and they took to it immediately. It's very nice for the price which was on sale plus I had some Wayfair points. So if it doesn't work out I can always give it away and not worry about that. I'm still looking for a really cool mid-century one that is about this size but this will do for now. I've got the top covered with plants and lamp and collectibles and photos and all kinds of things and it really does hold a lot of stuff. It is very very sturdy, and I guess I appreciate the fact that the wood is I don't know MDF or something, because real wood would smell like real stain and I don't want that kind of annoyance in the house or for the dogs. There is prettier furniture around, but what the heck we never entertain nobody will see it but us and I think it's just fine it's kind of a warm brownish Gray. Feels real nice on the top and latches easily in the latches can be locked. So far so good did I mention how sturdy?! I have provided a photo of the back side of this thing because no one anywhere I looked at reviews, had shown that and since this part faces our living room, I was interested to know just how finished it was and it is finished and though it will be covered up by chair or sofa or something, it's still is not something raw behind, it can be freestanding. Good value, good purchase. would have preferred the doors to be sliding doors back and forth, and or that it had latchable doors at either end. But this is a pretty decent design and the good reviews about it are warranted. By the way if you're putting something together like this you may find that the pre-drilled holes can be a regular sometimes. If they are a little tight, you can sort of stick a screwdriver in them and twist it around until you break off a little bit of the area. Or just start screwing in the screws and it will make its own way. If the holes are pre-drilled too large find a couple of toothpicks to stick in there to make it tighter. I recently assembled this dog crate/furniture piece, and overall the process was fairly straightforward. However, there were a few moments where the instructions weren’t entirely clear. A couple of times, I had to flip or reorient pieces differently than shown in the manual in order to properly align the parts and screw in the rings. If you’re assembling it on your own, I recommend taking your time and double-checking each step before fully tightening everything. Once assembled, I’m very pleased with the finished product. My large-breed dog fits comfortably inside, and the crate feels solid and well-built for everyday use. The storage surface on top is a great bonus — it functions perfectly as an end table and provides extra space for décor or everyday essentials. We ordered the white unit for the large dog crate. The first delivery by Fed Ex arrived damaged and had to be re-ordered. The customer service representative said it would be to us by 6/26, it did not arrive until 6/30. Also the measurements of this unit are incorrect on the website. I called to report it but appears to still not be correct. The dog beds that we bought for it to meet the sizing, do not fit as the interior measurements are still off. The gate doors are bulging out in a couple of places which causes the doors to scrape when they slide from one end to the other, would prefer to have the corrected or doors replaced, if possible. I really love this piece, it is overall very sturdy and its beautiful. My only complaint is the putting the backing on. I took my time building everything to ensure everything was built to the best it could be. The backing punctured through the wood in spots where it was too thin. I really do love everything about this crate (so far). That is to say, I love the way it looks. I spent days looking at different furniture crates and had an aha moment when I found this one online. It was the perfect vibe for the aesthetic of my home. When it arrived I unpacked everything and inventoried all of the parts. Check. Then I read through the directions and it said it would take two people an hour to put it together. Uncheck. My dad and mom both came over to help. My dad is a carpenter and builder. It took us five hours and a lot of curse words to put it together. Was it worth it? At the time, no. But now that it's together, I'm glad we persevered. It really is a nice, sturdy piece. As for functionality? We'll see. I'm bringing an eight-week-old puppy home in a few weeks and imagine things will be pretty mild at first. The real test will be in a few months to see if the gates hold up. They aren't not sturdy, but they're also not affirmingly solid.
