The wood is reclaimed chicken barn rafters and has all of the characteristics that you would expect from reclaimed barn wood! Our natural variation accent shelves are not stained and the color can vary from piece to piece. We do not add to or take away from any of the natural distressing that has occurred from decades of use. You will see nail holes, screw holes, nails, discoloration, scratches, dents, and many other variations. Each of these markings is a glimpse into the history of your shelves. You may see holes from a mortise and tenon joint or other time-honored wood joining techniques. You may notice where a hinge or hook is used to hang. No two pieces of wood are the same - that is what makes these shelves so special! They are one of a kind. Absolutely love these shelves!! We need the perfect something for the kitchen wall that had no cabinets and these shelves were definitely it. Perfect size and fit for what we wanted. Look great and so easy to install. It has a video that shows yiu exactly how to install them. Maybe took 10 minutes to have them both up and sturdy on the wall.
