It’s rough and has a pebbled glass feel to it. I’m sure it’s very scratch-proof and durable which is good. It just doesn’t seem quite as sleek as the rest of the table. Absolutely beautiful and and easy to put together. My one complaint would be that though the top IS solid wood, I was disappointed to find it still had a laminate over it. Any scratch to the surface and it will bubble if it gets wet and that will eventually ruin the surface. I wanted a beige table and this one is listed as gray, but another reviewer said it was beige. I agree that it picks up the tones of the beige in the room and works great as beige.
