Soft upholstery, but not super comfy. It’s almost stiff when you lay on it, but it’ll probably be more comfy with a couch cover or blanket underneath. This section is also a lot smaller than I expected. I’m 5’1 I can lay down on the extended part of the couch, but if you’re taller than this then you might not fit. I've had this chaise/sectional going on two years now. For the most part, it has held up pretty well and looks good in my apartment. However, the MAJOR issue I have with the product is it's advertised as being faux leather. But when it arrived, the material was definitely not faux leather--but more like a faux suede. I specifically wanted a leather-like material because suede material is more delicate than leather and requires a lot to keep clean, especially during times of high use. That said, I decided to keep it anyway, because it does look good and I didn't feel like going through the process to send it back. It is easy to clean, though, when there is a spill or dirt gets on it. Spills and dirt do come out completely without leaving a stain. I use a rag and fabric cleaner. But the caveat to consider is I'm rather religious about cleaning it as soon as any spills and whatnot get on it. Plus, I don't have any kids or pets. Looks great! A bit of a pain to assemble but I'm happy with the result. The storage space underneath the cushion is only covered by some thin wood slats knit together so I wouldn't trust falling down onto that cushion. Comfort-wise it's a little stiff, some nice, soft pillows would definitely help. This couch is absolutely amazing and the perfect compact size. My last sectional might as well have been the room it was so big. This sectional is compact and elegant. I was surprised at how high quality the leather on the seats and headrests was. The faux leather on the back and sides is definitely stiffer and much more durable. It’s impossible to tell the difference unless you push on it and I’m sure it will wear very well. Assembly was simple and straight forward and took all of 10 minutes. It’s comfortable but firm. I’m 6 foot and the chase is perfect for me but my friend who is 6’8” does not find the chase ideal so if you are an average sized person it’s perfect but if you’ve got long legs or are super tall it may be too small for you. The chair itself is nice but the delivery was a nightmare. They changed my delivery date, which was inconvenient for me, and the the guy sweat all over my chair and says it would go away.
