Actual wood, maybe not the prettiest grain, but wood. Arrived assembled, but I added some glue to a few areas just in case, and glued on a little cardboard to the back to prevent anything from falling out of the drawers. Generally pretty happy with this. Feels solid, instructions were clear, easy to put together. Only issue was that on the middle shelf, not sure if the pilot holes underneath weren't deep enough, but the screws to secure it to the bar ended up creating enough pressure that it pushed a point up and cracked the finish, and the screws hadn't even gone in all the way yet. Wish there was an optional clamp or 2 hole plate that came with it so I can screw them together so I can stack them.
