This butcher block is absolutely wonderful. It's big, beautiful, very well made and heavy. Exceeded my expectations. I was lucky enough to get it while on sale. But it's very much worth it. The bench is beautiful. I love Wayfair. Its the instructions that suck. Though the right side drawer if off a bit, but I will handle that. Seriously!! I have built so many things from Wayfair. When I started ordering furniture 2 years ago the instructions and how the screws and bolts were identified was awesome. Now they are all thrown in a bag together. Not marked, The instructions don't help identify them. Half the stuff that you MUST use is not in the instructions, you have to guess where to use it and how. Its ridiculous. Very classy design, heavy and sturdy with eye-catching detail and impressive proportions. This was a significant purchase for my new home, and it looks like it was made just for my kitchen. But I am not $1,500 worth of happy... I would put my happiness rating at about $900. But I paid over $1,500 and I have some issues with this item. Mostly, the paint and overall finish on the legs and frame it not what I expected. The little bare detail spots are very rough and not sanded smooth so they will snag clothing if you brush up against it. And the wood used for the legs is heavy but also can be dented quite easily (which happened during assembly using a hand tool). But the real kicker for me is the paint job... for this much money it just doesn't seem to be "finished." You can scratch it off with a fingernail. With 3 small dogs in my house this is a potential problem. Add to that, the paint was not sealed in any way- and John Boos SELLS a poly coat product! Just what I was looking for in a real solid wood kitchen island on a budget! It fits our space & is a basic style for a good price. It is a soft wood (fir) so you do have to be gentle with it & it did come with some shipping/packaging character marks, but our style is rustic/vintage so it works just fine. I actually modified it by cutting off the bottom 2” on each leg & adding rollers so it is easily moveable by just one person. My only complaint is that I wished the drawers were two inches longer so they lined up with the block and therefor provide additional space. It feels substantial and sturdy, and the shelving underneath gives us tons of extra storage. Assembly took about 2 hours with two people, but the instructions were straightforward and the finished product was definitely worth the time. It is not real wood, so I would be careful with the surface—I wouldn’t place hot pans directly on it or set drinks down without a coaster. That said, it looks and feels like a much more expensive piece of furniture once assembled. We are using ours as a homeschool craft and project table, and it is PERFECT for that!
