I’ve had these for five years now and i’m obsessed. i e received dozens of compliments over the years. I sprayed immediately to get the rust color. I do wish I only sprayed a little so I could have enjoyed the grey a bit longer because it was gorgeous as a mix of color but it is what it is. Now these are COOL! And goodness, what a brilliant assembly structure. Those little locking tabs are genius. A couple bottom screws and boom, done. They’re well built and exceptionally sturdy. I sprayed the hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and salt solution and they were good and rusty in like two hours. I like that they come with a special netting basket for dirt in the top shelf area should you decide to plant insist rather than just use pots. I’m not sure which direction to go yet. I bought these to help reduce the wind that we get on our deck. We have them attached to the railings. Last year we had to chase our furniture a few times during our wind storms but not this year. They worked very well as a wind break. They definitely had to be secured well to keep them in place. They look very nice and add to the look of our deck instead of taking away. Beautiful planter and true to size and color from its product page. I have two full sized hibiscus plants in each of my planters in my front yard. I will give a warning and say maybe put bigger rocks at the bottom to try and ward off anything getting root bound and blocking the drainage holes- but thats an issue with just about any big planter.. Looking for an authentic, weathered outdoor metal planter? Start with this bare steel planter and let nature slowly do the rest. Corten steel was originally developed for use in railroad cars. It is considered “weathering steel” and is made of a group of alloys that together have exceptional tensile strength and corrosion-resistant properties. When exposed to the weather, the steel forms a layer of rust on its surface that serves as a protective coating. This controlled corrosion creates the rustic, antiquated appearance for which Corten steel has best become known. The weathering process may take a month or so depending on the elements to which the planter is exposed. Note: Oxidation in Corten steel is typically slow, but some planters exposed to excessive rain or moisture/heat combinations might weather more quickly.
