I’ve had these for five years now and i’m obsessed. i e received dozens of compliments over the years. I sprayed immediately to get the rust color. I do wish I only sprayed a little so I could have enjoyed the grey a bit longer because it was gorgeous as a mix of color but it is what it is. Now these are COOL! And goodness, what a brilliant assembly structure. Those little locking tabs are genius. A couple bottom screws and boom, done. They’re well built and exceptionally sturdy. I sprayed the hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and salt solution and they were good and rusty in like two hours. I like that they come with a special netting basket for dirt in the top shelf area should you decide to plant insist rather than just use pots. I’m not sure which direction to go yet. I bought these to help reduce the wind that we get on our deck. We have them attached to the railings. Last year we had to chase our furniture a few times during our wind storms but not this year. They worked very well as a wind break. They definitely had to be secured well to keep them in place. They look very nice and add to the look of our deck instead of taking away. they are sturdy once you have the dirt in them, but seem a bit flimsy when empty. Be careful filling them, as I had my neighbor help me fill with his john deer and we had to go very slowly and level the dirt in layers so it didnt warp the shape. It is considered “weathering steel” and is made of a group of alloys that together have exceptional tensile strength and corrosion-resistant properties. When exposed to the weather, the steel forms a layer of rust on its surface that serves as a protective coating. This controlled corrosion creates the rustic, antiquated appearance for which Corten steel has best become known. The weathering process may take a month or so depending on the elements to which the planter is exposed. Note: Oxidation in Corten steel is typically slow, but some planters exposed to excessive rain or moisture/heat combinations might weather more quickly. Similar to eager gardeners planting bulbs in the fall expecting brilliant colors in the spring, anticipation for the transition from bare steel to a weathered rust-look is part of the natural gardening experience.

I was concerned about chipmunks eating my strawberries but our exterminator thinks that they will not be able to climb the smooth exterior. Hopefully he’s correct. I purchased the midnight blue color and I love it. Our house is not modern, it’s an old world French style, and I think these have a clean classic feel that compliments it. The blue is subtle, it reads more charcoal but I’m glad it’s not too bright. I bought the L shaped beds and put 4 in a square. I may buy a square bed to fill the center. I love this product. The directions are TERRIBLE, but once I figured it out it was pretty simple. Can be put together by one person but better with two. *You will need re bar wire to help reinforce - the rocks are so heavy, that weight will make them bow out.
