The two compartments on the top lift up to open but sadly they do not lock in place to remain open, which could be a little inconvenient but there is a slow close on it so it does not slam closed. **TIP** there is a piece that covers the top so you can possibly sit items up there that is probably some type of mdf board and it probably blends in with the packaging and mine was thrown out, so just be mindful and ask for that piece. This locking mobile cabinet is constructed of heavy gauge steel and Sandusky's patented heavy-duty caster base. The baked enamel finish keeps the cabinet looking new.

Large sturdy cabinet. Some screws were missing to attach the wheels to the base, but replacements were sent quickly. I'm not sure about the design though. The base with the wheels does not attach to the cabinet. There isn't even any kind of edge to keep the cabinet from sliding off if you push it.
