Comes largely put together and you have to slot in a couple of pieces and that is it. Took 15 mins with 2 of us. Fabric is surprisingly good for the price and is nice to the touch. The seat part of the sofa is not hard but not soft. I would say medium to soft but this is understandable given it is a sofa bed and I am overall very impressed with its comfort. I was pleased to see they did and also the mattress is more substantial at 8” thick versus many that are much thinner. The seating is firmer than many standard sofas, but that is to be expected when there is a mattress tucked into the sofa. This is an elegant, firm sofa that was easy to assemble solo, and this is not something I usually do. I did have a friend help me flip it up onto its legs after assembly. The box arrived really beat up, and I had misgivings as I was unwrapping, but the contents were protected. I have now had this sofa for over a year; I slept on it for three months while fostered cats and kittens took over my bedroom. It would work to use it as a daily bed, but it is VERY firm. The blue velvet fabric has held up nicely despite 2 cats (who fortunately, do not scratch it). I have received many compliments on it; it is the focal point of the sitting area.
