Not as thick as I had hoped, closer to a thick mattress cover. Not much different from a down blanket, really. It’s basically a nice topper for firming up a foam mattress, or adding a hypoallergenic layer overtop something that’s not rated as being very “green”. We first tried this over a firm latex pad, and it did not add much noticeable improvement in thickness or softness. Next, we tried this down pad over a 2 inch thick foam pad, and it made all the difference! I am not at all a fan of foam pads. However, using this topper over the foam pad makes the foam less susceptible to sinking! Love it! We recently purchased a new mattress and it turned out to be not as soft as we'd hoped, so we purchased this mattress topper. It did come with some rust like marks on one side, but the other side looks just fine. I did tear it a little with my thumb when I was trying to position it better on the bed, which surprised me.
