I wish furniture manufacturers would stop to consider that not every piece of furniture is going to be put against a wall, so it would be nice to have a decent backing. The back of this bookcase is some sort of shiny, vinyl covered panel and the color is awful. Maybe it was meant to be faux marble, but they missed by a mile. Really was easy to put together by myself . Probably even quicker with a helper . The hardest part was putting the last piece on and getting everything aligned and when I finally screwed everything in one of the rods on the top came through the other side of the wood .
