The shade seems to mute the light coming from the bulb. The light has a yellowish dull glow not very conducive for reading. The wood base seems sturdy and easy to assemble. The lampshade arrived rolled up which was a new one for me. Once unrolled you have to snap it onto the frame to form the shade. One of the shades had several defects so when you turned the light on, it looked really bad. I contacted wayfair, and they sent a replacement shade. Overall the lamps look good.. Anonymous. Illinois. These were pretty easy to put together. There was a cord at the top that was hard to get out of the way so you could screw in one of the parts to the base.
