Great aquarium stand for my 40 gallon breeder. I’ve got 25 years in the hobby and have been through enough water-related disasters to know not to cut any corners with your stand. I’m satisfied with this one. Pros -This is actually a nice looking piece of furniture. Closed storage space means no exposed equipment and cords. Doors and drawers aligned perfectly. -No wobbles or side to side movement. You can’t tell from the photos, but there’s a metal crossbar that attaches to the tabletop and runs the length of the stand, attaching to the metal side frames. -The corners of my 40 gallon breeder sit directly on top of the metal frame. Since the corners of the tank bear the most weight, this is ideal. I can’t count the number of stands I’ve seen on Wayfair and elsewhere where the aquarium rests entirely on a pressed wood tabletop with no frame pieces directly beneath, which is a crazy design choice. -Instructions are clear, just look carefully at the diagram. Came with 1-2 extra of each hardware piece which is nice. Cons -Yeah, it’s 90 particleboard which is notoriously weakened when it gets wet. I got a piece of clear vinyl and cut it so there’s a 12” overhang all around the tabletop, so when I inevitably splash some water it will drip away from the stand. -I wish I could have put the built-in power outlet on the other side. Not a big deal but would be nice if you could switch the side pieces to allow for that. -I wish the stand had a metal crossbar on the bottom or a cross brace across the back. It seems solid enough but this would really take it to the next level. -Shelves aren’t adjustable and once you put the stand together you’re stuck with them. Others have noted if you want to use a canister filter you need to leave one out. I think they provide additional shear stability so I’m not sure I would want to do that. -Adjustable feet are plastic which is an odd choice for something holding 500lbs. I bought this stand for a new 40-gallon tank that I am setting up. This aquarium stand was shipped and delivered on time with no damage. Assembling it was a bit of a challenge because the top was slightly bowed. It took a rubber mallet and 200lbs of weight to get it lined up so I could screw it down. The openings in the back panel aren't really useful for my purposes. The designers only considered tanks with hang off back (HOB) filters. If you are using a canister filter that resides in the cabinet below the tank, you will either have to leave the back panel off or get creative with a saw. I got creative with a saw and cut a hole in the back big enough to easily accommodate the filter's output/return hoses and provide easy access for maintenance. This stand seems sturdy enough to support the 450lb+ weight of a filled 40-gal tank. It's not what I'd call high quality or high-end decorator, but so far it suits my tastes just fine.. Nicole. I’m 72 and put this together myself. The instructions didn’t always match the picture guide, but I did get it together. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is from the very first screws I inserted there was some of the cabinet that flaked up. But once the screw was in place it wasn’t noticeable. It seems very sturdy. I have cement floors and had to add sliding pads to make it level. The back metal poles have a place to screw something in but nothing was included? It took a while for 1 person to build, but I love it! I love that I can have two tanks in one place. I have a reptile on top and fish on the bottom. A plus is I hated to think of buying a lighted hood for the fish due to the price and this had a light strip included. This aquarium stand was just what I needed! it fit perfectly and was the natural wood style we were looking for. It was surprisingly high quality and very heavy when put together. Only concern was the delivery (can't blame Wayfair). As you can see in the photo by the time it arrived at my house the box was pretty beat up.
