I bought this barometer as part of a three instrument set which included the tide clock and cabin comfort.meter. After adjusting the barometric pressure to local conditions, I checked against airport barometer settings on a daily basis to determine accuracy. The readings are dead on accurate day after day. The concept that 'decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather' was postulated by Lucien Video and it's the basis for a weather prediction device called a storm glass or liquid barometer. It consists of a glass container with a sealed body, half-filled with water. A narrow spout connects to the body below the water level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere. When the air pressure is lower than it was at the time the body was sealed, the water level in the spout will rise above the water level in the body and when the air pressure is higher, the water level in the spout will drop below the water level in the body. There is not too much to this Moonphase clock, the moon stages are fixed and it seems to run on a simple quartz mechanism. The face is nice, looks like real quality, but the housing is not blue, but black generic plastic. The side housing seems very unlike the rest of the clock, which is a shame.. Comer. Earlysville, VA.
