This really is a beautiful Danish mid-century style low bookcase. I got it in walnut and really love the deep, rich color as it goes with other bookcases I own. Right now I have it so the bookcase is open in the back since it is against a wall, but I like that it has the option to attach the back panels. After assembling the unit, I didn't feel like doing any more work - haha - so I just left it as is. It is very heavy - solid wood - and I love that quality compared to so many items that are made of particle board. It took a few minutes to figure out the assembling but then it was easy. It fits most sized books vertically; only a few larger sized books don't fit. Love how the photos displayed had a turntable featured because that is what we are using ours for! I wish furniture manufacturers would stop to consider that not every piece of furniture is going to be put against a wall, so it would be nice to have a decent backing. The back of this bookcase is some sort of shiny, vinyl covered panel and the color is awful. Maybe it was meant to be faux marble, but they missed by a mile. I ordered the unfinished, stressed it, stained it and followed up with 3 coats poly for durability. I am so happy and feel proud that I was able to take on such a project!! Really was easy to put together by myself . Probably even quicker with a helper .
