Actual wood, maybe not the prettiest grain, but wood. I don't know what the "45" is supposed to signify, but it is easily removed with a bit of sanding. Some of the background color will come off, but can be touched up with a medium toned scratch repair or similar product. It's a rustic finish, so it works.
