It comes in two pieces requiring you only to twist them together (one side comes with threaded screw and the other with a hole for screw to be twisted into). It was a bit tedious to get the top and bottom lined up on the screw but once it started to thread it was easy. The top of the table has some imperfections in the construction but not super noticeable. It is a heavy piece, not super large but nice for a side table next to a chair. I did place it next to my sofa and it appeared dwarfed but fine for a smaller chair side table. Overall I would rate it a 4 due to the imperfections in the top out of the box.
