Disappointing! These are not solid wood but MDF and extremely poor quality. The images are not accurate for the arched top. You have to slide a thin back board, which actually feels like a pressed cardboard, in the tracks of the arch frame (see images). Manufacturer needs to update the images for this product as they are very misleading. Thankfully I purchased insurance, and I also spoke with a Wayfair agent who has organized the pickup of these items and I will receive a full store credit for the products and the insurance. This bookcase is absolutely gorgeous. We’re currently using it in our kitchen and it looks like it belongs in a design magazine — the arched top and sliding cabinet doors give it such an elegant, intentional look. That said, assembly nearly broke me. Several steps genuinely require two people because you have to simultaneously hold pieces in place while lining things up — it’s basically furniture Twister. The worst offender the back panels. Instead of one solid panel that slides in cleanly, this shelf uses two split panels joined by a plastic connector. Getting both panels seated into the connector and the grooves at the same time is a nightmare because the unit isn’t fully stabilized at that point, so everything keeps popping out. You have to do this twice — once for the main shelf, once for the bottom cabinet. It is not a pretty situation. My partner and I restarted multiple times before we finally got it. Up close, that center seam is also the weakest-looking part of an otherwise beautiful piece. If you have a helper and patience to spare absolutely buy it. I haven’t styled the bookcase yet, but am pleased with the look. Delivery had me nervous the end of the box was open and I just knew there would be broken or missing pieces. However, there was no damage to the piece. I put this together myself in about two hours. The directions were clear and easy to follow. The most difficult step is bending the arch piece and keeping it in place while installing the cover piece. I’m sure that part would have been easier with someone helping.
