It is definitely darker than the photos show, more of a very dark gray. I assume it will fade some to a lighter gray, similar to what is show. FYI - you will need to pre-purchase a 4x10, to cut in half. These will be used to place in holes dug roughly 36 inches deep and set in concrete. Hopefully that saves someone else a trip. I really like this garden arbor/pergola trellis. It is a pretty good size and it is reasonably stable. I think it will hold in strong winds because it will allow for movement that should against mitigate breaking. It was relatively easy for my husband to assemble. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this arbor it is nice wood and the color is very nice as well, I would advise you determine and measure first the location you want this to be placed as it is bigger than you might think. Also, some help would be needed to put the arbor together, put the pieces of the doors together before you start putting the screws in so you make sure that everything is leveled and both doors close right..
