This bench was exactly what I was looking for. The color was as shown in the pictures. It is a beautiful, deep mahogany with no scratches, cracks or other issues. It is a good size for my entryway — not too big as to overpower the hall but big enough for two to sit comfortably. Very sturdy. I put it together on my own in less than two hours. The quality is very good, I'd say closer to 5 stars. There's some minor sheen differences in the wood that I expect will look more consistent after cleaning. Packaging was good also, very easy to break down and separate out the styrofoam and cardboard as I'm able to recycle both. However, the unit was damaged -- one leg where it curves to form the long "ski" broke clean through. I don't know whether to blame the packaging or the design of the unit (but it is very stout). I recieved my cedar chest and took one look at the box and was afraid to open. But all i saw was a dent on the top of the front. With that i went ahead and put together. No big problems. Just follow directions. It had to have been wrapped for shipment very well to have just sustained only that damage. The whole thing is not made by using 100% solid cedar or price would be much higher. But i wanted to store blankets i crochet and wollen sweaters and things of that. Cedar helps to keep bugs that love wool away. I had a beautiful light blue sweather that wasnt stored in cedar and i regretted because moth got to it and ate hole right in front. So after putting together just rubbed a little original cedarcide inside. I went on and notified wayfair about the picture of torn up box and picture of dent. Was contacted right then. Talk about fast. He asked for email and order number so he could see what the problem was. I didnt want new one just a few parts that were broken in bag and 1 missig. Great person to talk to. Its hard to find stores that stand behind their products and feedback like that. Thank you to Wayfair and the people who respect not only good feedback but about a probleem you encoutered.. Debra. Beautiful. We splurged on having Wayfair put it together for us based on numerous reviews of different benches also found on Wayfair. This bench did not have any reviews, but we really liked the way it looked compared to all of the other options, so we took a chance and ordered it, mostly based on the finish of the wood in the online photo. We knew that the photo doesn't always look like the actual product, but we were willing to take the chance, and it worked out for us. The finish is lovely, and the bench appears to be good quality. The pneumatic levers to keep the seat open work smoothly and hold up the seat well so that you can easily put items in the storage compartment. Critical to all of our benches we emphasize the importance of functionality and practical use and so the Connaught Bench features a convenient flip up lid allowing for easy retrieval of articles from the triple storage compartment below.

I was overall very pleased with this, although it does ding and scratch easily. There were a few dings in out-of-sight places, and a few more after we were done with assembly. It was extremely well packed and it went together very well; no wobbling or wiggling to make the parts fit, all the holes were in the right places, it was shipped with extra hardware which wasn't needed but it's good to have. The two suggestions I would give are actually about the instructions. It was not clear from the diagrams how to orient the dividers horizontally. For vertical (up/down) sticker was confusing the way it was placed but I figured it out by the drill holes. However side-to-side, because the pieces are symmetric I put the riser holes facing each other. This was wrong and of course that's one of the first pieces you put in, so we just drilled new holes for the riser. No big deal but would be helpful if the diagram were more clear, or if you drilled the assembly holes so the divider can only face one way. It's clean-lined and elevated by two metal sled legs for a modern touch. The top opens on a hinge to reveal a spacious inner compartment to keep blankets, heirlooms, toys, and other items. Clean-lined and minimalist in design, the top is a quick surface to rest a book or a couple of baskets.

The trunk is a beautiful piece of sturdy solid wood. I purchased it because it has the black metal legs and front handle that complements my current industrial bedroom furniture. Only four stars because it arrived damaged in two places. One at the left hinge attachment to the wood trunk, the other is a split in the wood on the right side of the trunk where the leg attaches. We were able to nail the wooden block into place to attach the metal leg securely and hopefully prevent further splintering. The quality control needs to be in place for both the preparation of the furniture for shipment AND ensuring the shipper HANDLES THE FURNITURE WITH CARE DURING SHIPMENT.
