Don't. It's a really cheap bamboo or wood fiber composite material that can't be sanded. Mine has two 7" cracks splitting two of the four legs right out of the box. Many of the edges and pre-drilled screw holes are bulging with flaky fibers sticking out. Pieces won't lay flat against each other. Directions are single sided Chinese with nothing labeled. It has a QR code taking you to a website with 50-60 videos of furniture being assembled (in Chinese) with no indication which one is your severely damaged "alter table with drawers". Just don't.. I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this cabinet. It's not solid wood but it feels and weighs like solid wood, and the color and size is exactly right for my Mexican-themed Sun Room. P.S. Some earlier reviewers commented on "doors not staying shut" and similar. All I would like to say is that it is fairly difficult to correctly hang hinged cupboard doors. Try as you might, it seems one side is always uneven. Just persevere and hang the doors perfectly straight and in line with each other . . . it took me four or five attempts spread out over two hours to get them right, but I'm a skinny little old lady with COPD, and ALL of my chores could be done by my ex-husband in a very few minutes. I love that it's wood and no formaldehyde. The finish is a little rough. I wiped it with a dry paper towel and dried-mud colored stuff came off. I don't know if was part of the finish or just dirty. Even so, l like it. It adds color and design to my entryway. It replaced a large black credenza that was too dark and imposing. Smaller is sometimes better. I might get a different lamp though. I want to add that we did not notice any cracks in the panels, but after this dry winter, 2 pieces separated which suggests the door on one side was pieced together and as it dried, they separated a little.
