I have never had a batch disposal before. I have always had the traditional ones that require a switch to turn on. The only real issue (and its not much of one) is with how our sink is in the kitchen island there isn't a good spot to set the plunger when not in use other than in the sink itself. It is powerful and I am really happy how well it does its job. There is no flap that covers the opening to the drain like on traditional disposals. I thought this would be an issue having it open and silverware falling in. With our drain off to the right it really has not been a problem. Although I did have a fork fall into it the fact that the disposals "neck" between the sink and the bottom is long so the fork never fully fell into the disposal it just stood straight up. Also not having that flap covering the disposal makes it much easier to see at a glance if anything has made its way in that should be there. It is noisy but not bad, just as I expected as from traditional. I like the safety of it not turning on unless the plunger is in. We have young kiddos. Just makes me feel better. This was pretty easy to assemble, I completed the the assembly in just about 20 minutes. The instructions were straightforward and simple to understand. All tools needed came with the lectern, however I do recommend using your own Philips screwdriver to put it together a bit quicker. The top part of the lectern had a nice smooth black wood finish look to it. The top part of the lectern that can hold paper is sturdy, definitely strong enough to hold a laptop if needed. The bottom tray is not as sturdy as the top shelf but is still strong enough to hold a cell phone or a few pens.
