I enjoyed using this air conditioner on a 4-hour trip in June. My mini cargo van AC was out, and this kept me from dying of heat stroke. It didn't fill the cargo van with cool air, but with the spout pointed toward me, it made the space you bearable. The Sunjoy cycles on and off. I could not find a rhyme or reason to why it was cycling. It seems when the temperature is too high ( 95+), it does not work. I would roll the windows down slightly, and it would cycle back on around 88 degrees. I ran the air conditioner on the Oupes Mega 1. When the compressor is on, it is using just over 200 watts. I never saw it go above 250 watts, but it did stay slightly lower. It uses a few watts even when the compressor is not operating. I think it is because of the thermostat sensors. It would be really nice if it could run on 12 volts instead of only AC. My Oupes uses some watts just having the 120 volt plugs on. Finally, the Sunjoy is much larger than I anticipated. We used this tent for winter camping in March with a mix of light snow and rain, and overall it performed really well. The 300D Oxford material felt durable.We set it up with a wood-burning stove using the stove jack, and it worked great. I was initially concerned about how close the stove would be to the walls, but the spacing was actually very comfortable and safe.Inside, we were able to fit two twin air mattresses with a storage table in between, which worked perfectly as a side table. With the stove inside, I would say it realistically fits 2 people comfortably (or 1 queen/king mattress). Without the stove, you could likely fit an additional mattress.The awning is a standout feature — having a covered cooking area right outside the tent made a big difference, especially in wet conditions. Definitely worth getting the version with the awning.The only downside is that this “8-person” size does not have the top ventilation that the larger models (10- and 12-person) include. Because of that, we experienced noticeable condensation buildup along the walls. If your bedding touches the sides, it can get damp, so I recommend keeping mattresses slightly away from the walls and bringing a towel to wipe down moisture.One additional tip: if you’re using a wood stove, make sure your chimney pipe extends well above the tent height (ideally 9–10 ft). Mine was a bit shorter, and a few embers caused small, patchable holes in the roof.Overall, I’m very happy with this tent — it’s durable, functional, and worked great for cold-weather camping.
