It lays fairly flat, but you’ll definitely want a rug pad or some heavier furniture on it to keep it from sliding around. The 5x7 fits perfectly under my desk. The rug is thick enough to feel luxurious but thin enough that my desk chair rolls easily. The colors are a little muted compared to photos but it still looks great; much better than the cost would suggest. It does slide easily on hard flooring so I purchased some double-sided rug tape.
