Foxtail fern (Asparagus densiflorus) is a perennial evergreen herb with light green, needle-like leaves. It's native to South Africa and is a popular houseplant. Foxtail ferns are not true ferns because they use seeds to reproduce instead of spores. They have an unusual, symmetrical look with arching plumes of tightly packed leaves that look soft and delicate. Foxtail ferns bloom with white flowers and produce red berries. Foxtail ferns can grow to about 2-3 feet tall and wide. They are only evergreen in climates with mild winters. In zones 9-11, you can grow them outdoors year-round.
