I opted to fill it with water since it is easy to dump out to move inside for any kind of tropical storm or hurricane preparedness. There are so many positive things about this base. First of all, I love the fact that it is on sturdy casters and can roll easily around to move the umbrella effortlessly. The casters have two lockable wheels that are easy to unlock and lock. Secondly, there are two pole adapters to fit smaller diameter poles. My umbrella pole is 1.49”, so having a smaller insert helps hold my umbrella pole sturdy.
