"Flaming June" (1895) by Frederic Leighton is a vibrant, sensuous depiction of a woman in a state of restful repose. The subject, draped in a flowing orange-red gown, lies gracefully against a backdrop of soft blue and green, evoking a sense of tranquility and warmth. The composition is known for its striking use of color, with the fiery hue of the dress contrasting beautifully with the cooler tones of the surroundings. Leighton’s mastery of detail and his ability to capture the female form in an elegant, almost ethereal way make this painting one of his most celebrated works.

The frame isn't all wood at all. The quality of the print is mediocre. Worth 25 bux, not 115.. Anonymous. Wed Aug 19 2026

Miranda, daughter of Prospero from William Shakespeare's "The Tempest," was isolated on an island with her father for twelve years before a storm wreaks havoc sinking a sailing ship bringing love to her world. With his renowned use of color, the stormy grays and blues of a storm tossed rocky shore, Waterhouse depicts Miranda with an intense expression, windswept hair and a flowing blue dress reflecting the storm and sea. John William Waterhouse, the well-known Victorian painter who embraced the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood's style, communicating his aesthetic vision through the vivid use of color, Neo-classical, formalism, and realistic depictions of strong women using romantic poems, Greek myths, and Arthurian legends. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. This replica , European style, bright gold-toned, ribbed frame is cast in quality designer resin with an acanthus leaf and floret border that draws the eye toward the beautiful image. Proudly printed and framed in the USA using imported molding.

I love this beautiful piece of art so much and have been wanting it for a long time. However, the one I received is almost completely devoid of any color, and the glass is not non-reflective so it’s like a mirror, making it hard to even see the print. So disappointed. May try to swap out glass for non-glare.. Beth. Bloomington, IL. Sat Mar 29 2025

"Flaming June by Frederic Leighton" is one of the most celebrated masterpieces of Victorian art, renowned for its vibrant color and sensual elegance. The painting depicts a young woman sleeping on a marble bench, her body curled gracefully as she drapes herself in a translucent, fiery orange gown that seems almost aflame in the sunlight. The composition is carefully balanced—the curve of her form echoes the circular framing of the piece, while the intense orange contrasts with the cool blue of the sea and sky glimpsed in the background. Leighton imbues the scene with both serenity and vitality, merging classical ideals of beauty with a Pre-Raphaelite love of detail. Often interpreted as an allegory of the fleeting nature of youth and beauty, Flaming June captures a moment of luminous stillness, where sensuality, repose, and the radiance of color fuse into a timeless vision.

Flaming June is a painting by Sir Frederic Leighton, produced in 1895. Painted with oil paints on a 47-by-47-inch (1,200 mm × 1,200 mm) square canvas, it is widely considered to be Leighton's magnum opus, showing his classicist nature. It is thought that the woman portrayed alludes to the figures of sleeping nymphs and naiads the Greeks often sculpted. Flaming June disappeared from view in the early 1900s and was rediscovered only in the 1960s. It was auctioned shortly after, during a period of time known to be difficult for selling Victorian era paintings, where it failed to sell for its low reserve price of US$140 (the equivalent of $1,126 in modern prices). After the auction, it was promptly purchased by the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where it currently resides.
