I've had 3 of these Simmons shower valves for over 30 years. The trim uses a clear plastic knob and a now very worn out backer template. Everything about the trim was very tired and the socket portion of the knob broke when I was trying to remove it to change the actual pressure balancing valve insert. This new design is significantly cleaner looking and will likely easily outlast my previous plastic valve handle. I like this so much that I subsequently ordered 2 more for my other taps.. Bill.
