There is a horrible mildew/mold smell the moment you open them. Wayfair was amazing and tried replacing them with new ones but same horrid smell again! If you prefer a soft pillow for sleeping, just put our shredded foam pillows in the dryer on a low setting for a few minutes. Now that I removed 1/3 of the foam they are great pillows. They come very stiff and the manufacturer recommends you remove/adjust the filling to suit your needs. Be sure to run them in the dryer for 20 minutes to "fluff" them up. The original pillow with all it's stuffing make for a great additional firm pillow/backrest. I have had neck problems for 5 years and I have been searching for a comfortable pillow for all of that time. I don't like a thick pillow and this one seems to be the most comfortable so far.
