Pole diameter is 1.5” so standard if you’re sourcing your own base. Once I actually get a base and test it through some real sun/wind (it’s rated for 16 mph), I’ll update with the actual performance. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Strong, Sturdy and a Shade Provider. This umbrella is pretty big. So it is perfect to have almost a 360 shady area. The tilting is perfect when the sun decides to move. Having the ability not to fully open is an option, so when you want shade and someone wants to tan. I did get the cords tangled slightly when turning to open and close, just make sure the cord isn't wrapped around one of the spokes of the umbrella. I wish it wouldn't allow you to turn down when the umbrella is tilted. Not sure if it causes any damage, but the turning mechanism will start reopening the umbrella even though you are turning in the down direction. So that can be a little confusing.
