At the rain collection area, a screened opening minimizes insect entry into the barrel while filtering debris from incoming water. I ordered 2 sizes of rain barrels and stands to match from same company. They changed shade of color somewhere along the line so not everything matched. Manufacturer told me to keep stands or donate which was nice since then I didnt have to package up and send back. Maybe they shouldve changed color name to new color so this wont happen to others. I have yet to install as I have not yet purchased the rain barrel to go with it. I have 9 rain barrels around the house and 2 275 gal. IBC totes to catch water for my garden. I bought this one for the front of the house. It looks nice and has held up well in the southern heat. Exactly what I needed- size, shape, drain spout, and mesh screen. I was able to attach it to a down spout kit (purchased separately elsewhere), and with the kit drill bit, made a hole in the mesh screen to connect the barrel.
