We took a road trip from PA to SC last week, and I followed the pre chilling suggestions (set both sections to -4° for a minimum of 3-4 hours before filling) from the reviews.. I adjusted one section to 34° after I filled the refrigerated food while leaving the the frozen food set to -4°. I did add a few freezer blocks to the tops of both sections before we closed the lids. On the trip down we stayed overnight in a hotel halfway to SC.. To my delight our food was in perfect condition when we unpacked it!! This is a great option for car rides to keep things cold. We used it for a road trip from Montana to Southern Nevada in JULY. It was hot! The cooler would not stay cold or even cool on the Eco setting- this was in the car was a/c running. Make note of that if you plan on using this in warm, hot, or where it will get direct sun. Just used it today where the outside temp was +33 C/91.4 F and it held firm at 2 C/ 35.6 F. This was both on the battery and auto 12v outlet. Imagine having a car parked in the sun to go back and start up the vehicle and have no worries. The battery had 90% left after about 45 mins but recharged very quickly when the vehicle was started..
