There were detailed instructions with pictures and the notch for the lock was pre cut. This is a hollow door but it’s very sturdy and heavy. It doesn’t feel hollow. And the lock is actually a lock. I bought 3 of these kits for my closet doors. My doors are 1 3/8 thick. I read a lot of reviews stating they would not work. At first they didn't work for me either, but after reading comments and looking at the instructions, if you place the rollers right ( by #) and put the door with #1 rollers in the back, it will work out with no scrapping. I gave it a four because it did not explain this well and I did a lot of extra work before I realized the issue!
