In its day, there was no yacht like the Bluenose II, a fishing schooner that combined efficiency, beauty and speed. It was built in Nova Scotia in 1921 to fish the rough waters off the coast of Newfoundland. It would stay out on the sea until its holds were full of cod, using salt to preserve its catch. But the Bluenose left its mark in history as a racing ship. For 17 straight years it won the International Fisherman's Trophy, awarded to the winner of races among real fishing schooners that worked the Grand Banks. The races created a heated rivalry between the greatest deep-sea schooners from Newfoundland in Canada and those from Gloucester, Mass. With Capt. Angus Walters at its helm, the Bluenose II prevailed year after a year and it became an enduring symbol of the maritime spirit. The Bluenose II was lost off Haiti in 1946.

The ship looks fantastic in my office. Saying that, some technical assembling was required and minor repairs, which took approximately 6 hours. There was a sense of pride and accomplishment working through the assembly and repairs. I would definitely recommend this model if one has the patience and ability to read directions.. William. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This steam kit is really nice. It was a little trickier than I had expected to install, but once I got it everything working, it was well worth the effort. It is so nice especially on a cold day to sit in the steam and just relax!. Tool. Fri Mar 15 2024

This model is a smaller-scale version of a much larger version such as the USS Constitution 36" and the 56". The model is handcrafted from beautiful wood such as rosewood, mahogany, teak, and along with various other exotic wood. The hull is constructed using a plank-on-frame method, each strip of exotic wood is carefully joined together to form a smooth hull. This model is completely hand-built to spec by skillful and creative master craftsmen; you will be amazed at how real it looks. The ship has a clear varnished coating followed by amazing details. On the ship, you will spot amazing details such as wooden bowsprit, foremast, mainmast, and mizzen mast. They are all connected to numerous fabric sails with detailed stitching, all rigging is painstakingly fastened by hand in matching colors. There's a small wooden cabin with a wooden boat on the main deck. On the quarter-deck, there's a wooden cabin. There are wooden fences surrounding the teak deck area toward the quarter deck area. You can easily spot a large number of cannons on both sides of the hull, and other crafted parts on the front and back of the ship. There's also a wooden rudder to help the ship maneuver in the right direction. An attached wooden stand with a nameplate engraved "USS Constitution" is standard on this model. The model was built according to scale through original plans, pictures, and drawings. Manufacturers absolutely use no plastic parts only the highest quality wood parts. This model is carefully secure and packed inside a wooden crate for easy shipping purposes.

Great experience from when I ordered it till I received it. The packaging was amazing. Once I unpacked it from its wooden box I was amazed at the beauty a total masterpiece. Mamoon. Farmington Hills, MI. Thu Dec 03 2020

After the end of World War I, Americas Cup racing resumed with a new set of rules designed to balance hull length, sail area, and hull shape to produce safer and more seaworthy boats. Designers also replaced the traditional gaff-rigged topsail and mainsail with a single triangular sail that rose straight to the top of the mast, known as a Bermuda or Marconi rig. In the late 1920s, a large jib, known as a Genoa, was added. These developments found application to the huge racing yachts known as the J-class of boats which were designed to have a 75 to 87 foot water line. Nothing like them had ever been seen before; no yachts so awesome have been built since. Only 10 of these soaring beauties were ever built. The great depression made them obsolete because of their cost. But during the heyday of international cup racing, they represented the epitome of the racing yacht. They were designed to sacrifice simplicity for speed, requiring large crews, special tackle, and geared winches. Their parachute spinnakers, as large as 18,000 square feet, were the largest sails ever made. Sir Thomas Lipton announced that he would challenge again for the Americas cup in 1930 and ordered the construction of a J-class boat designated as Shamrock V. Four syndicates of Americans responded by commissioning, at great cost, their own contenders. Starling Burgess led the effort for one of the New York syndicates. He promptly engaged the Wizard of Bristol, Nat Herreshoff, dean of American yacht designing, as his adviser. Together, they designed the largest and fastest racing machine ever seen and named her the Enterprise. This great and gorgeous J-boat was eighty feet long at the water line and sported a heavy keel with two centerboards. Her great 162-foot mast tapered from one and one-half feet at the base to nine inches at the top. It was made of two hollow tubes of aluminum and was supported by a large array of stays and rigging. Below deck she had two dozen winches for handling lines. Enterprise made short work of the other three would-be defenders of the Cup and was chosen to take on Shamrock V off Newport, Rhode Island. There, in September 1930, she went on to win a clean sweep of four races, maintaining the 80 year record of uninterrupted possession of Americas Cup.

This is a beautiful piece , easy to assemble. Perfect for anyone who is looking for a luxury display piece. Looks perfect for my luxury resort decor for the summer. Ashlee. NM. Wed Jun 03 2026

The name Riva is synonymous with elegance, class, and premier European craftsmanship, Riva has been one of the world's leading producers in high quality speed boats since the 1950s. The Riva name dates back through the 1840s, where Pietro Riva began to fashion boats in a small northern Italian town called Sarnico. Pietro's grandson, Carlo, would be the figurehead of the Riva Speed Boating legend. In the 1950s, Carlo Riva began to produce elegant wooden speed boats of unquestionably superior style and quality. The Riva Aquarama was the undisputed flagship of Riva's line. Becoming more than just a boat, the beautiful Aquarama was a social symbol of the highest class, style, wealth, and most notably, power. Based on the Aquarama, the Riva Rivarama is a supreme class open cruiser and a design masterpiece. Every detail on the Riva Rivarama is beyond exceptional and she provides tremendous comfort and an abundance of options over her entire 44 feet of length. Again, Riva accentuates the use of exotic and precious materials, as is customary for all of their speedboats, the most luxurious of their class. The Riva Rivarama comes equipped with a MAN R6-800 CRM, 800 horsepower engine. The massive 17-ton speedboat can reach a ridiculous 40 knots/hour.

The Arbella or Arabella was the flagship of the Winthrop Fleet on which, between April 8 and June 12, 1630, Governor John Winthrop, other members of the Company and Puritan emigrants transported themselves and the Charter of the Massachusetts Bay Company from England to Salem, thereby giving legal birth to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. John Winthrop is reputed to have given the famous "City upon a Hill" sermon aboard the ship. Also on board was the first female poet to be published from the New World, Anne Bradstreet and her family. The ship was at first known as the Eagle. Its name was changed in honor of Lady Arabella Johnson, who was a member of Winthrops company, along with her husband, Isaac Johnson. Lady Arabella was the daughter of Thomas Clinton, 3rd Earl of Lincoln.

It is a very detailed and beautifully made replica of the ship Arabella. My Converse ancestors came over to America on this ship! Love it!. Beverly. Kennewick, WA. Sat Nov 28 2020

Built primarily with dense southern live oak, its hull was 21 inches thick in an era when 18 inches was common. Paul revere forged the copper spikes and bolts that held the planks in place. The 204-foot-long ship was first put to sea in 1798 and its most famous era of naval warfare was the War of 1812 against Britain when it captured numerous merchant ships and defeated five warships, including the H.M.S. Guerriere. It was during the ferocious battle with the Guerriere that British seamen, astonished at how their cannonballs were bouncing off the constitution's hull, cried out, ''Sir, her sides are made from iron'' hence, the nickname, ''old ironsides.'' the constitution today is a national landmark and is docked in boston.

Impressive model! I haven't even removed it from the packaging as yet. I am a woodworker and planning to construct a case for it as I did for the Independence, a model I finished this year. Only question I have is about the masts when first received. Upon opening the top of the shipping box I remember all the sails were 90 degrees to the hull. Now after 2 days, all the sails are 30 degrees to the left. I included a shot looking down at the model. I was interested to know if others have noticed this or am I mistaken? Also found this after unpacking (see picture) of rear mast warped at top. The other noticeable item was the size of the rigging blocks, obviously too large but can be overlooked as they seem to accentuate the model when viewed as a whole.. Greg. Gilroy, CA. The 19th century racing yacht, America, was given its name after the first international sailing trophy that it won - the Americas Cup. This schooner was designed by George Steers for Commodore John Cox Stevens and a syndicate from the Yacht Club of New York. On Aug 22, 1851, the America won by over 20 minutes in the Royal Yacht Squadrons 53 mile regatta around the Isle of Wight, capturing the ''One Hundred Sovereign Cup.'' Spectating at the race, Queen Victoria asked an attendant who was second, and recieved the famous reply: ''There is no second, your Majesty.''

Great addition and beautifully crafted.. Susana. Duarte, CA. Sun Mar 26 2017

This model is simple, but stunning! It is a replica of a Boston Tender, a classic rowing boat believed to have originated along the New York waterfront in the early 1800s. Some hold that the Whitehall rowing boat design was introduced from England. However the famed nautical historian Howard I. Chappelle cites the opinion of the late W. P. Stephens that in New York City there is a Whitehall Street and this was where the Whitehall was first built. Chappelle, Stephens and others agree that the design came into existence sometime in the 1820's in New York City, having first been built by navy yard apprentices who had derived their model to some extent from the old naval gig.

H.M.S. The victory was the ultimate British fighting vessel - 227 feet long with 104 guns and 850 men when at full capacity. It was launched in 1765 and is most famous as adm. Horatio nelson's flagship at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Nelson was shot and killed during the battle. H.M.S. Victory is the oldest naval ship still in commission. It has been restored and rests in dry docks at Portsmouth, England. The ship in Portsmouth is the sixth ship with the name Victory in the royal navy. There has been great interest in the fifth victory ship, which was built 15 years earlier and whose wreckage was found recently by odyssey marine exploration.
