I was most concerned about a broken pot arriving by freight and it turned out to be packed in an insulation foam that surrounded the product and totally protected it. This rustic terra cotta pot is given its unique character by using a centuries-old, handmade process using canvas-lined molds and traditionally fired kilns then rubbed by hand with dried moss and let to sit outdoors to naturally age which gives it a one-of-a-kind natural patina. While the high firing temperature and quality of their glazed and terra cotta containers result in a durable and frost-resistant product, they still recommend that they are stored in a frost-free covered area in winter. If left outside, water may accumulate in the container and freeze, causing the planter to crack and break. Planters that must be left outside should be covered to prevent water, snow, and ice from accumulating inside the planter.

These are really high quality planters and very heavy and sturdy. I will say that the colors look a lot different than the picture... the picture makes them look blue on the tip fading to a pretty purple but they are more of a dirty looking greenbrown which was kind of disappointing. They also were REALLY dirty in the shipping box.. literally dirt all over them I wish the seller would have hosed them down before shipping. In the winter, if a planter is to remain planted, they should be raised up off the ground making sure not to block the drainage hole. This allows the planter to drain and will prevent the planter from freezing to the ground. If the planter is not to be planted, it should be brought inside to a garage or shed. If this is not possible, follow the steps above, but turn the planter upside down to prevent it from filling with snow and ice. It should then be covered or wrapped with burlap or any absorbent material (old blanket/towel) and then wrapped with dark plastic to prevent it from accumulating moisture
