I ordered this to donate to the foster program at our local shelter, and boy are some Mama kitties and their kittens going to love it. :) It's really soft - soft fuzzy fabric and soft walls around the outside The pad itself is comfortable, but firm enough to not squish down eventually. It would work well for a dog too, but know that the outer wall has no rigid backing - just the pillow edge. Big dogs that like to lean against the outer wall will be disappointed. The cover is easy on /off, and can go in the wash. There's even a handle on the back. The "non-skid" backing isn't particularly tacky, but might help on a short nap rug? This dog bed has been perfect for my large Goldendoodle! The size is great and gives my dog plenty of room to stretch out and get comfortable. The cushioning is soft but still supportive, so it seems really comfortable for longer naps.
