When not in use it is flush with the stovetop which helps create a flat seamless flow on the countertop. When we have used it, it works very well. This hood is quiet, has four exhaust settings, a timer and two adjustable led lights. We needed it to vent out the wall and it was an easy job for our contractor. We have never purchased this brand but are impressed with the exhaust options and styles they offered.
