The shipping got delayed a few days, so unfortunately it came late for what it was needed for & I had to smash larger lava rocks for my daughter’s project. She only needed 5oz, so the rest I was getting for my plants. Good news is these are itty bitty tiny pieces. I highly recommend actually reading the UF Master Gardener’s blogs as they are the plant authority in FL & putting rocks or anything in the base of a planter causes root rot, it actually doesn’t help with drainage like ppl think. UF (University of FL) actually recommends that for indoor plants that you use a layer of something (they have lists for specific plants) on the very top of the soil to combat fungus gnats. These work beautifully for that. I have a layer of lava rocks for my Desert Rose & succulent planters both indoors & outdoors- I don’t have issues with bugs at all in those planters. Plus they look nicer. I do put a coffee filter between the soil & rocks so I have an easier time when I need to repot my plants. I just repotted my desert rose & a succulent putting two additional leaves from a different succulent that fell off in bigger planters. I put a coffee filter in the bottom to keep the soil in the pot, soil, my plants, backfilled with more soil then the layer of these lava rocks on top & they look wonderful, clean & kept. I will be adding these to all my indoor planters & all my succulent planters as I repot everything. Zero fungus gnats. It’s completely eliminated the fungus gnats in every planter with the layer of lava rocks- highly recommend trying it & these are the perfect size for smaller indoor planters.. Deborah. US.
